Seattle Cinerama Theatre

Christie will supply and install the world’s first commercial digital laser projection solution at the Seattle Cinerama Theatre, a 4K Christie digital laser projector, with scalable light output up to 60,000 lumens.

“When hi-tech visionary Paul G. Allen bought the theatre in 1999, he gave Cinerama full rein to innovate in order to provide our community with a cutting-edge movie-going experience,” says Greg Wood, Cinerama Theatre Manager. “Selecting a laser projection solution – with its ability to render 2D and 3D movies with stunning clarity and brilliant, accurate colour rendition – is in keeping with this tradition.

“We were excited by demonstrations of the technology earlier this year by Christie and we are looking forward to welcoming this reliable and brilliant laser projector installation to our space.”

Four years after initial product launch, Christie takes another step forward in near seamless video walls by offering a new screen option: the Christie MicroTiles S310 screen.

Featuring the same optical performance and construction as the S300, the Christie MicroTiles S310 screen is slightly larger and features 0.7-millimetre seams (compared to 1.3-millimetre seams for the S300).

The S310 operating temperature range is 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) to 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). Just like the S300 screen option, the Christie MicroTiles S310 screen delivers excellent contrast with deeper blacks and image uniformity in demanding indoor high ambient light environments.

Chinese Projector Market Bigger than USA

InfoComm

Nick Rogers, CEO of PMA Research says, “China is now the largest projector market in the world, overtaking USA in the last year — with annual sales of 1.8 million units vs. annual sales of 1.6 million units in the United States.”

“In 2013Q2 GDP rose by ‘only’ 7.5% due to control of investment by the Chinese government. In addition, the education procurement process began in Q2 as well, and large volume shipments are expected in 2013Q3 and beyond. Finally, the digital cinema market is exploding in China, and the home theater and pico and personal markets are expected to show gains in the next year as well.”

PMA Research has been expanding its coverage of the projector market in China, and recently hired Jennie Yi to open PMA’s Beijing office. The new report on China will be included as an ad hoc offering to clients who subscribe to PMA’s Worldwide Industry Service family of reports (and is also available as a stand-alone report).
