Half Rack Shelf System

Extron Electronics announces immediate availability of the Half Rack Shelf System, a new concept in mounting hardware for applications using one-half rack width and smaller products.

The compact, 1U half-rack width size allows the mounting of half-, quarter-, and eighth-rack products in space-constrained furniture such as lecterns and cabinets that are not wide enough to support the mounting of full width, 19” rack shelves or electronics.

"This uniquely sized system of rack shelves and related accessories provides architects, AV system designers, and integrators with options for incorporating AV into designs and locations not previously available," says Casey Hall, VP Sales and Marketing for Extron. "With the Half Rack Shelf System, key AV equipment can now be more easily integrated into lecterns, columns and other small architectural elements without sacrificing the overall aesthetic or room design."

The Half Rack System comprises the HRB 109 Basic Rack Shelf; the HRU 109 Universal Rack Shelf Kit, which includes eighth-rack and quarter-rack false faceplates; and the HRP 100 Blank Panel. Half Rack System products are finished in a durable gray powder coat finish to match other Extron products.

Thunderbolt Weds PCI Express and DisplayPort at 10Gbps

Thunderbolt technology is a new Intel high-speed PC connection technology that brings together high-speed data transfer and HD display on to a single cable.

Running at 10Gbps, Thunderbolt technology can transfer a full-length HD movie in less than 30 seconds. This Intel-developed technology comes to market via collaboration with Apple, so it’s first available on Apple's newest line of MacBook Pro. But in Q4, you’ll start seeing Thunderbolt in other brands.

Intel is working with the industry on a range of Thunderbolt technology-enabled products including computers, displays, storage devices, audio/video devices, cameras, docking stations and more.

Thunderbolt combines high-speed data and HD video connection via two communications protocols -- PCI Express for data transfer and DisplayPort for displays. The Thunderbolt port looks identical to the mini DisplayLink port because it is compatible with existing DisplayPort displays and adapters. All Thunderbolt technology devices share a common connector, and let individuals simply daisy-chain their devices one after another, connected by electrical or optical cables. The same port can connect up to six devices.

MDS: Proof of Performance Plus Remote Management

At the upcoming at Screen Media Expo 2010 in London, Minicom Digital Signage (MDS) will demonstrate the first Remote Device Management solution with Proof of Performance capabilities.

Cost-effective Digital Signage CAT* Extenders

Smart-e's range of CAT* extenders (CAT* refers to CAT 5, 5e, 6, 7 and 8 structured cabling) is specifically designed for the digital signage market.

The transmitter options are available in three output types: Single output (SLX-TX711), Triple output (SLX-TX713), and Five output (SLX-TX715), each compatible with the compact receiver SLX-RX711. EXTRON: Industry's First Universal Twisted Pair Transmitter

If you haven’t seen it yet, Extron introduced the MTP U T A D, universal MTP twisted pair transmitter with multiple video and audio inputs that can be installed in any two-gang Decora-style wallplate.

The MTP U T A D eliminates the need for multiple transmitter units and multiple cables for each source, and dramatically reduces the number of matrix switcher inputs required. A single universal transmitter and receiver pair can replace up to four individual dedicated transmitters and four individual dedicated receivers.

It offers dedicated inputs for VGA, HD component, S-video, and composite video with audio, and automatically switches to the active source, transmitting the signal over a single CAT 5-type cable.

Integration friendly features include EDID emulation, auto-input switching, contact closure remote control for input selection, buffered local monitor output, and switchable video output pre-peaking.

The MTP U T A D Universal Transmitter is compatible with all Extron MTP Series Twisted Pair products, including receivers, distribution amplifiers, switchers, and matrix switchers, to create a wide range of simple and complex A/V systems. You can also use this in twisted pair applications that require support for multiple video formats and audio.
