8000 Series

Mitsubishi Electric upgrades its premium 8000 Series installation projectors, designed for high-end installations and large venue applications.

With models available from XGA to WUXGA, the latest generation improves brightness up to 8500 ANSI lumens, adds a 2800:1 contrast ratio and some additional options such as custom colour wheels (allows performance to be further fine-tuned to particular applications).

The company says the specification list of the 8000 Series is the most comprehensive of any projector ever offered by Mitsubishi Electric, including several patented technologies such as an image processing algorithm that can extrapolate high-definition data missing from source material.

Dynamic Contrast Correction prevents loss of detail at both ends of the dynamic range. Mitsubishi’s Natural Colour Matrix (NCM) allows intermediate colours – yellow, cyan and magenta – to be controlled independently of red, green and blue.

The 8000 Series’ unique heat-pipe cooling system keeps the lamp housing cool without the need for a power supply, enabling cost reductions and a compact design. As well being highly reliable, other benefits include exceptionally quiet operation – less than 35dBA – and significant energy savings. The projector consumes less than 0.3W in standby mode. A dual-lamp system ensures an expected lamp life of up to 4000 hours

8000 Series projectors are equipped with a range of geometry adjustments, including built-in curved screen correction. The projectors can be operated over a full 360° range, allowing projections onto floors or ceilings. For multi-projector installations, built-in edge blending technology and advanced colour-matching ensures easy set-up with no external image processing required.

An automatic self-cleaning air filter, which uses technology borrowed from Mitsubishi’s air-conditioning division, keeps the projector running efficiently and free from dust.

The projectors are also equipped with a RJ-45 LAN terminal for remote operation, and are compatible with Crestron RoomView/e-Control, AMX Device Discovery and PJLink remote management suites.

Some other features include built-in closed caption support – a feature that automatically subtitles real-time speech. In High Altitude Mode, fan speeds are adjusted automatically to ensure optimal cooling. XD8600U and XD8500U include Picture-in-Picture operation, while WD8700U, UD8900U, UD8850U offer a split screen mode.
