Smart Signage Platform

Playing on its popular consumer line of Smart TVs, Samsung is borrowing "smart" for its Smart Signage Platform, an "open-source digital signage platform" built around an embedded media player and software developer kit (SDK).

Samsung’s new SDK for signage software allows software partners to develop customized signage applications suitable for an array of business and user environments. Backed by best-in-breed software developers and solution providers, including Capital Networks, Four Winds Interactive, Scala, Signagelive and Wireless Ronin, customers will have access to signage experts to help create customized solutions.

Powered by a System on Chip (SoC) semiconductor and featuring a dual-core CPU, full codec video processor and either 4GB or 8GB of storage depending on the model, Samsung’s Smart Signage Platform includes an embedded, high-performance media player which allows users to play back content without the need for a separate PC or set-back box.

OpenSign

AOpen releases OpenSign, a web based interactive digital marketing and signage platform for Android devices that allows retailers to install and manage a digital signage network.

OpenSign is an interactive digital marketing and signage platform built for retailers to tackle the frustrations and costs of operating and maintaining a digital signage network. It is built on Ruby on Rails (the same web application framework that powers websites such as Twitter and yellowpages.com) and runs as SaaS.

OpenSign is purpose-built for different screen sizes, such as retail shelf displays and large promotional displays. It lets store owners actively manage digital content, without design experience, from any PC connected to the web.

Tidebreak signed a European distribution deal with Paradigm AV just in time for ISE and Paradigm featured their TeamSpot collaboration software on the stand at ISE 2013.

  • PDF

Visix

Visix's new APPOINT isn't “like PowerPoint for Digital Signage.” It is PowerPoint for digital signage

APPOINT is software that is essentially a plug-in to MS PowerPoint, which allows you to use PowerPoint to build and schedule digital signage displays. APPOINT adds templates and graphics widgets to PowerPoint itself and then APPOINT adds in a software-based media player that turns the PC running PowerPoint into the DS player -- oh, and you can still use the PC for other applications at the same time.

APPOINT is perfect for small digital signage applications in schools (e.g., menus in cafeterias, weather and information for students and faculty), doctor’s offices, retail, menus and small office DS applications. These won’t put you to sleep.

Software Makes Video Walls More Affordable

  • PDF

 Hiperwall

Hiperwall’s high-performance low-cost video wall software system hopes to eliminate the need for complex hardware, making large scale visualization solutions available to a much broader range of companies and government agencies.

The Hiperwall software system will display still images up to 1GB resolution or larger, HD videos, live HD video streams and PC applications, turning a bank of monitors into an ultra-high resolution video wall.

  • PDF

Trans-Lux BoardTrans-Lux Corporation unveils its TL Control Digital Display Platform. More than just a software system to create or administer content for digital signage, the integrated TL Control Platform provides the means to manage the entire process including template authoring, playlist building and preview and playout.

TL Control Digital Display Platform renders broadcast quality graphics and video in real time with the capability to change individual content elements without requiring entire video segments to be re-rendered. The TL Control Template Maker is PowerPoint compatible for high-end digital signage production and allows operators to author content (includes video, animation, graphics, audio, live data and ultra-smooth text, or crawling tickers).

A single, easy-to-use interface allows building playlists, updating template information and scheduling content delivery to any player or group of players on the network. Updating template content can also be automated using pre-defined rules for easier management. Operators update and manage content with point-and-click simplicity using the TL Control Web Screen Software.

The TL Control Digital Display Platform system supports live video inputs from multiple sources (including cameras, cable/satellite feeds or DVD players) and can output the signal in analog, NTSC/PAL, DVI or HD-SDI formats. It automatically downloads and stores all content locally, allowing uninterrupted playout in the event of a network disruption. The system is also designed with an automatic recovery feature (player can self-diagnose and resolve system errors without operator intervention).

The Eight Pillars of Scala

  • PDF

Scala ConferenceTeatro alla Scala in Milan is one of Europe’s famous venues for performing dramatic opera. The International Scala Conference, a digital signage lovefest, brought some theatre of its own to its annual conference in Netherlands.

In front of 300 attendees from 45 countries, Scala wasted no time in playing out its biggest scene: CEO Gerard Bucas will retire and Tom Nix becomes the man in charge of digital signage’s largest software platform.

That change at Scala’s helm caught many offguard and probably overshadowed the real drama, the real opera that is playing out in the digital signage market where Scala is a major actor.

The “theatre playbill” that outlines this drama is a slide from their Scala presentation at the conference: the Eight Pillars of Scala strategy. Where goes Scala, there goes the industry…which is what makes these eight “pillars.”
