Samsung Electronics Unveils Cutting-edge Display Solutions at ISE 2014

Under the theme Integrate, Interact and Inspire, Samsung dominated the floor-space at ISE 2014 (the largest single stand by far) to show its display solutions.

Samsung Electronics also unveiled a new version of the Samsung Smart Signage Platform, a proprietary digital signage platform that provides a more efficient business environment. The Smart Signage Platform debuted at ISE 2013 and has been upgraded and integrated into Samsung’s large format displays (LFDs) for 2014.

Now that it has an enhanced digital signage platform with the industry’s first quad-core system-on-chip (SoC), Samsung Electronics intends to expand its market presence.

Cisco Edge 340 Digital Media Player

Cisco new Edge 340 Digital Media Player (DMP) is designed to be a digital signage media player optimized for touch-based signage applications. It uses hardware-accelerated video and is pre-integrated with both single-touch and multi-touch capabilities. Designed to be used with Power over Ethernet (PoE), the Edge 340 comes in both Wi-Fi and non-Wi-Fi models (wires Ethernet) is integrated with IPTV remote control and is VESA-compatible.

The Cisco Edge 340 uses a 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU with 2 GB of memory, 32 GB built-in storage and an SD slot and formats include MPEG-2 and MPEG-4, H.264, and VC-1 hardware decoding and it can drive up to two simultaneous HD video streams as it has dual-display support (and you can have the same content on both screens or two totally different aggregates of content). Outputs are HDMI.

Maevex decoders will soon provide a built-in fail-safe mode to ensure that pre-recorded digital signage content will automatically play on screen in the event of a lost network connection that interrupts streaming from a Maevex encoder. Clients can store the pre-recorded image or video clip in the decoder’s internal flash memory. When network connectivity is restored, the Maevex decoder reverts to the streaming content.
